Seniors Encounter “Survival” Adventure

Date: October 19, 2016

The Class of 2016 embarked on SVA’s annual senior survival planning adventure held each fall at Camp Mohaven located near Mount Vernon in northeast Ohio. The purpose of senior survival is to set aside time at the beginning of the school year to focus on life’s basic issues. No other environment allows for self-explorations and revelation of God quite like nature. Seniors are challenged in ways they have never been before. Before setting off they should have a read through campingfunzone.com as it’s full of tips like what to include in a survival kit, and ideas for easy meals to cook while camping. There’s a lot to learn so it’s best to make a head start before you make a move. Upon arrival at the camping site, they are given basic materials (such as plastic, duct tape, etc.) to build their shelter for the next five days making sure it will withstand the wind and/or rain. It will be far easier to create a shelter if they all manage to act cohesively as a team, and looking at these custom embroidered shirts, from somewhere like Imprint (https://imprint.com/custom-embroidered-shirts) could be a good way to help them to look and feel like a team. It will also be a good marketing tool for future events, as well as reminding the seniors of the time they spent here. And managing how to deal with the great outdoors will be the greatest (and most enjoyable) task of all. This experience is part of their senior Bible grade and includes journal writing, group activities, participation, attitude and attendance as measured through the evaluations of both staff and group members. The team-building activities are designed to challenge senior individually and strengthen them as a class or as Zachary Macomber put it, “The team building activities are like no other!” “Senior survival was an amazing experience…I feel so much closer to my classmates and I know that I can trust all of them now!” said Alyson Cole. “My favorite experience was the time I had with my classmates around the campfire…I died laughing every time I got to spend with them!” exclaimed Lissie Wilson. And Jessica Robinson summed it up well, “I went into senior survival thinking that I knew my classmates and friends but after this experience my class grew closer than I ever thought was possible!”
