2011 SVA Sherman Invitational Golf Tournament

This year the Sherman Invitational Golf Tournament will be held on Sunday, October 16, 2011, at the Sugar Valley Golf Club. 
Registration for 2 person teams will begin at 12:30 pm followed by a modified shotgun start at 1:30 pm. 
Revised Format!  6 holes Scramble/ 6 holes Shamble/ 6 holes Better Ball
You know what a Scramble is..."Shamble" is play your own ball from your team's best drive and "Better Ball" is play your own ball and the best score of the team counts.

We will have an "A" Flight (0-9 Average Handicap)  "B" Flight (10-18 Average Handicap) and a Handicap Division.   Prizes for Lowest Team Score "A", "B", and Handicap, Long Drive, Closest to the Pin.  All proceeds go to support the Sherman Athletic Scholarship Fund and Spring Valley Academy's Athletic Program, including the 2011 Kettering College "More Than A Game" Youth Rally and Basketball Tournament November 17-19, 2011.

This is the ninth year for naming this event after the late, Pastor Walter Sherman.  We will allocate some of the proceeds to the "Sherman Athletic Scholarship Fund" in Walt's honor.  From that Fund, we will award Athletic Scholarships to SVA Students who personify the type of athlete that Walt was and strived to develop.  Last year, we awarded $1,500 in total scholarships to these SVA Sherman Scholarship Athletes:  Rolland Donnelly ($1,000) and Michaella  Thomas ($500)

The Walt Sherman Athletic Scholarship

The Walt Sherman Athletic Scholarship is awarded to student athletes at Spring Valley Academy who most exemplify the traits of the Christian athlete that the late Pastor Walt Sherman exhibited himself and tried to instill in each of his students.  The student athlete exhibits a strong Christian character, on and off the athletic forum.  Their integrity is beyond reproach.  They display exceptional talent, skills, work ethnic and athletic results.  They are able to "carry the team" in morale and performance.  Nominations are made by head coaches of the Varsity teams and voted by the Athletic Committee.  The following students awarded the Walt Sherman Athletic Scholarship include:
