Spring Valley Academy is proud to announce that senior Peter Thomsen has been named a Commended Student in the 2016 National Merit Scholarship Program. Although they will not continue in the 2016 competition for National Merit Scholarship awards, Commended Students placed among the top 5% of more than 1.5 million juniors who entered the 2016 competition by taking the 2014 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®).
"These young men and women being named Commended Students have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success," commented a spokesperson for NMSC. "These students represent a valuable national resource; recognizing their accomplishments, as well as the key role their schools play in their academic development, is vital to the advancement of educational excellence in our nation. We hope that this recognition will help broaden their educational opportunities and encourage them as they continue their pursuit of academic success."
NMSC, a not-for-profit organization that operates with government assistance, was established in 1955 specifically to conduct the annual National Merit Scholarship Program. Scholarships are underwritten by NMSC with its own funds and by approximately 440 business organizations and higher education institutions that share NMSC's goals of honoring the nation's scholastic champions and encouraging the pursuit of academic excellence.
Peter is the son of Mr. & Mrs. Duane Thomsen, Lebanon, Ohio, and plans to attend college (most likely Walla Walla University, Washington) next fall. Congratulations, Peter, on this prestigious scholastic achievement!
