We’re pleased to share some exciting news about a “new” fundraising program for Home & School. It’s called “SCRIP,” and it’s a fundraising program that works while you shop.

Some of you may remember what scrip is, but it’s been some time since we’ve used this program, so for those of you who are new to the idea: Scrip is gift certificates/ cards from national and local retailers. Many popular retailers participate in our scrip program including: JCPenny, Gap, Shell, Pizza Hut, Red Lobster and many others.

Participating retailers agree to sell gift certificates to the school at a discount. You buy the gift certificates at full face value, redeem them at full face value, and Home & School keeps the difference as revenue. Everybody wins:
• The retailer gets cash up front and repeat business…
• We get a powerful fundraising alternative that involves no selling and a regular source of revenue.

The great thing about scrip is that you put your regular household shopping dollars to work. You can earn money for Home & School without spending a single additional penny. This year Home & School is offering an incentive for all who buy scrip: We’re going to give back 25% of the percentage that we earn from the retailers, for you to apply directly to your school bill. Just spend your regular shopping dollars with scrip at the stores that participate in the scrip program and put some of that money back on your child’s school bill. Families will still be responsible for their account balances. Scrip will be applied when the credits are received.

This year we’re going to structure scrip a little differently than we have in the past. Orders and payments will all be made online. No paper order forms or bringing money in to the school. Just log in to www.shopwithscrip.com and set up an account (on the home page there is a green box on the left hand side of the screen that says, “Family Sign Up!”, click on “create account” in that green box to get started). Once your online account is set up you will need to set up a “presto pay” account with them so that your payments can be debited directly from your checking account. (When placing orders you will be given the choice by to either pay by “presto pay” or by “check,” always click on “presto pay” as we are not going to run any of the monies for this program through the school office). Orders will be combined and submitted by the scrip coordinator as needed and should be available to be picked up from the school office a few days after they are submitted. There are a few grocery stores who participate locally and not through the national program. They are Kroger, Cub Foods and Dorothy Lane Market. You will need to continue purchasing those gift cards through the school office. We also have some scrip gift certificates available from when we did this a couple of years ago, so please check out the list at the end of this letter for those retailers. We need to get rid of those first before ordering more from those stores online.
