Spiritual Emphasis

What makes SVA different from any other college preparatory school? Its spiritual emphasis makes all the difference.  The SVA experience enables students to discover God's ultimate truth, as well as their individual and unique gifts, and to begin an exploration into their purpose in life.  From toddlers to teens, students learn valuable lessons of faith, hope, and love through SVA community service projects.

PRESCHOOL
SVA preschoolk introduces students to God's love.  We believe that by building the character, nurturing the spirit challenging the body, and equipping the intellect, we empower each child for life, learning and eternity.

ELEMENTARY
Students focus on character development through the study of life and people living in Biblical times.  In addition to daily Bible class, classroom worships and scheduled chapels, a week of spiritual emphasis is planned twice a year for students in the elementary division. Guest speakers often lead out in these programs.

MIDDLE SCHOOL
In addition to daily Bible class instruction and daily worship, the students will participate in regularly scheduled chapel programs as well as fall and spring Week of Prayer programs. Occasionally, middle school students will attend high school chapel or Week of Prayer programs. In order to make this experience the best it can be, bookbags, textbooks, homework assignments or other distractions should not be taken into chapel programs.

HIGH SCHOOL
Not only is worship time purposefully set aside on a daily basis for small "family" groups, but the high school division meets each Wednesday for an hour of spiritual renewal. Special Week of Prayer programs are conducted twice a year. These spirit-filled weeks, led by both students and guest Christian speakers, challenge the youth in their spiritual journey. Friday evening vespers also serve as a meaningful time for students to relax and worship in a variety of ways as they welcome the Sabbath hours.

ACTS 2011
Some Drama Team members in action

On Saturday, October 22, the Ohio Conference of Seventh-day Adventists held a special day-long convocation at the Robert Center, Wilmington, Ohio in celebration of 150 years of Ministry in Ohio. Ohio Conference President Dr. Raj Attiken welcomed everyone and introduced Dr. Ted N.C. Wilson, President of the SDA World Church, speaking on "Acts of the Holy Spirit: Then and Now." Several SVA high school students were involved in several distinct performances that day. This included high school students who are members of the Kettering Praise Orchestra, under the direction of Donald Huff, for the morning service and a special afternoon concert narrated by Pastor Karl Haffner of the Kettering SDA Church. Donald Huff is the band director of The Kettering Praise Orchestra and SVA Bands for Grades 5-12.

The other performances featured SVA's new Drama Club, under the direction of Advisor Lisa Moller. Their first skit performed that morning was entitled "DTR: Define the Relationship" in which students gave four different scenarios, each with a relationship: boyfriend/girlfriend, grocery checker/shopper, hairdresser/client and God/one of His followers. In each case, sometimes humorously, one person wants to know where the relationship is going. The message is that we must fully rely on God for He is always there for us, holding us in the palm of His hand and we need to trust Him. Students involved in this skit were Hannah Odenthal, Sean McCartney, Helena Carmon, Ryan Bovee, Nancy Moldovan, Martin Clayton, Thomas Dodds and Joanna Jones.

In the afternoon, they did a take on the Biblical story of the blind man healed by Jesus entitled "Sin, Spit, and Sight" demonstrating how an incident like this might be seen through the eyes of modern you people--gross "spit-mud" and all. The message was that when God asked us to do something for Him, it might be unorthodox, and unexpected, but the outcome will be great even when we get a little dirty in the process. Zach Johnson, Aliane Kubwimana, Greg Scheuermann, Johanna Jones, Taylor Bartram, Lindsey Conkle, and Nancy Moldovan performed this skit.

We praise God for the many talents He has blessed our students and pray that we remain faithful to His service as continue to KNOW FOLLOW SHARE JESUS!
