SVA Celebrates “Dreams and Visions” Convocation

Date: September 21, 2016

What is the best way to kick off a school year?  How about a high Sabbath of refocusing on mission with the entire p8128675school family.  Spring Valley Academy did just that on the Sabbath before school started.  The Bible indicates that, in the last days dreamers (the old) and visionaries (the young) will come together in harmony and something powerful will happen.

Students, families and constituents converged on the SVA campus for a wonderful Convocation Sabbath on the theme, Dreams and Vision.  Hundreds of people from all four constituent churches were blessed by great music, powerful speaking, and breaking bread together.  Students and parents shared their dreams and visions for the school year.  Dreamers (longtime staff members) were honored.  Teachers were dedicated with a special prayer service.  Students and alumni provided wonderful music.

Two featured speakers delivered inspirational and challenging messages.  Steve Ford spoke for the Friday night vespers.  Steve is the son of former President Gerald Ford.  He was a teenager when his father unexpectedly became President of the United States following the Nixon resignation.  His testimony about the Godly leadership of his father in his family, even while leading the free world, was a powerful challenge to every parent and teacher.

p8138759Anil Kanda, evangelist for Southeastern California Conference, shared the importance of Christian education in his journey from Hinduism to Christianity.  He reminded us that the purpose of Christian education is to equip missionaries.  He shared stories of people being drawn to Jesus through winsome conversations and probing questions.  Every interaction is an opportunity to shine some light into a life that needs hope.

The event ended with the Longest Table.  This was a continuous table where hundreds of people sat down to share their picnic lunch with each other.  They had a lot to chew on, figuratively and literally.  Many expressed their conviction that the Lord is truly leading and blessing this school.  We are committed to seeking His will and following His lead.
